career change!

New Job!
I've been quiet on this blog lately because of a big change in my life. In November, I started my first official paid(!) job as a librarian. For the first time in my post-college working career, I can say that I actually love going to work! Every day at the library is new and different and my job really keeps me on my toes. I'm surrounded by books and people all day and it's the perfect combination of interests for me.

To top it off, I got a job at my childhood library, which is the library that inspired me to become a librarian in the first place. I'm so honored to have been chosen for the position at such a great library in the area!

Three years ago around this time, I was just starting my library school journey. I stuck with my unfulfilling day job long enough to get my master's degree (debt free!) and make a career change. While the last few years at my job were grueling and stressful, I'm glad that I made a new goal for myself and accomplished what I set out to do. Yay for much needed life changes!

That's so awesome that you're working at your childhood library, I have many great memories from my childhood library as well, and now (since I've never moved) Jackson's creating his own memories there. So glad all the stressful days at your old job paid off, it makes all those days so worth it.

When we first moved to this house the bookmobile used to come to the nearby park once a week. We loved it!

  12. Congratulations! How on earth do you deal with seeing so many books you want to read coming across your desk? Double congratulations on not going into debt for your grad degree. Isn't it nice to know your paychecks aren't going to pay for a loan?
I check out books constantly, so libraries are such a treasure.

  21. Congratulations! That's fabulous - goals set and reached! Some of the fun things I remember from childhood are Library trips, and I'm lucky enough to be able to walk to a nice one with Becket now. How lucky that you get to be there every day :)

  30. That is such wonderful news on so many levels! I was having some "I should have gotten my master's degree in library science instead!" thoughts last year. I'll just live vicariously through you, I guess! And kudos to you for coming out of it debt free... we're cracking down on the last of my husbands' MBA loans right now. Again, I'll live vicariously. ;)
What a fulfilling feeling you must get each day as you walk through the doors to your new job. So happy for you.
    And, the bookmobile!? Swoon!

  35. Congratulations! The book mobile at the Wellington library recently stopped, but I can remember it being a highlight in my grandparents lives - a fortnightly stroll to the bus stop around the corner rather than facing the traffic and driving to the library.

  36. That's awesome. Congratulations!
(In a twisted way, this reminds of the mediocre novel I'm reading. "The American Wife" She works as a librarian at a school and adores it - until she marries the rich guy.)
